In celebrating Sierra Leone at 50 in 2014 in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex, some concerned Sierra Leoneans congregated to organize a series of events including an independence picnic and soccer tournament march. The theme was “Celebrating Sierra Leone at 50 for God has brought us thus far.”
Out of that celebration and series of pursuing meetings primarily focused on creating a unified community to celebrate Sierra Leone in Texas, as well as to create a rapid response force in addressing national concerns of our people in Sierra Leone, the Association of Sierra Leonean Organizations in Texas (ASLOT) was formalized on November 23, 2014. The organization’s mission, therefore, became to organize Sierra Leonean organizations within the state of Texas to come together as one, while engaging in mutuality with non-Sierra Leonean friends to help support our community and promote sustainable growth in needed areas, such as healthcare, education, social empowerment, and the like, to benefit the people of Sierra Leone.
To organize ourselves in Texas into a more cohesive community, to employ interdependence by building mutually supportive relationships, and to leverage our individual resources that would promote economic, political, and social empowerment, unity, and love, for the sustenance of economic, social, and political development and prosperity in our country.
Collectively contributing and sharing our resources as a united effort to bring renewed hope of mutual love, unity, and commitment to benefit sustainable programs for our community, our country, our people, our children, and our future.
